Wallarah Creek Bridge carries the Pacific Highway over Wallarah Creek at Charmhaven, on the NSW Central Coast — roughly 13 km north-east of Wyong and 109 km north of Sydney. It is the main link between Charmhaven and Lake Haven to the south and Blue Haven and San Remo to the north, so a closure here pushes traffic a long way around.
Flooding is the most common cause. Wallarah Creek and Spring Creek drain a catchment of about 33 square kilometres into Budgewoi Lake, and during sustained heavy rain the highway is cut near the bridge — historically about 100 m to its south, with closures between Lowana Avenue and Costa Avenue. NSW's Manly Hydraulics Laboratory operates a water-level gauge at the bridge itself.
Bushfire has shut this stretch of the highway before, and planned maintenance closes lanes from time to time — bridge works are usually scheduled overnight to limit disruption.
Follow on-road signage and any directions from emergency services — they override anything shown on this page. Never drive into floodwater: depth and current are very hard to judge from a car, and water over the road may be hiding damage to the surface beneath it.
